Visiting Dad In Maine
Dec 9th
Visiting my Dad in was TONS of fun. It was a long (4+ hour drive), and when I finally arrived at around 6 or 7PM on the Friday after Thanksgiving I was relieved. He and his girlfriend Maxine greeted me. That night, we ended up playing Uno with some of his friends to 500 points. I won by a landslide.
On Saturday we explored Fort Knox; walking around the outer wall of the fort, in the tunnels, and along the river bank where the cannons are. This was intriguing to me because it had a very creepy feel to it. Just looking at how old the structure is, seeing the rust on doors and gates, and feeling cold spots really make the hairs on my neck raise up more than once!
Saturday night, we went to the casino: Hollywood Slots. Unfortunately, the name correctly implies that they only have slot machines. I tried my luck on a lobster slot machine, a standard 777 bar bar bar slot machine, and a playboy slot machine. I must have left my luck in New Hampshire, as I burned through the 35 in my wallet and 60 more which Dad gave me. Thankfully, he ended up making $200 on top of his $50 ‘investment’ so at least someone in the group was the big winner.
On Sunday I slept in. Saturday night was difficult for me and I ended up attempting to drown my sorrows. With sorrows still present, I finally went to bed well into the next day. Dad and Maxine went to get John and Michael (the boys) from their mother’s house. I had intended to go along, but was still asleep when they left. I got up, took a shower, and they arrived back at the house at around 2:30.
The intelligence of Michael blows me away. He is 6 years old and seems like he knows something about everything. He understands adult conversations he shouldn’t (not swears or sex, but other mature topics like money), and took a very impressive guess at spelling my name. Instead of Thomas, he put Tom’s. To a 6 year old trying to sound out how to spell something, I think that is amazing.
I ended up leaving on Monday afternoon and dodging much of the inclimate weather. The drive home was just as long as the drive there, but felt much longer becuase I was eager to get home. I took several photos, and you can see and comment on them here. Captions will follow at some point.
Here are a few of the photos:
An Experiment
Dec 5th
So this is my new blog. I used to have a desire to write in a blog every single day and tell a few things that happened in my day, but for some reason the desire vanished. Well… It’s somehow appeared again.
So today I went to the gym on the elliptical machine for 67 minutes and burned 1038 calories. It was challenging because I’ve only been to the Total Fitness Zone a few times and their machines are much different from what I am used to. It almost seems like the stride is too short and causes a bit of pain in my right knee the next day. I really wish that didn’t happen, but it could also be a product of my not going to the gym in 2 months and hitting the elliptical for 60+ minutes right away.
I just got back from visiting my dad in Maine on Monday. I had a really great time at his home over the weekend and took lots of photos. Once I get a bit of free time next week, I’ll be uploading the photos from the trip here. If I’m really ambitious they may include captions, but I’m not promising anything!
I am really looking forward to Christmas at Mom’s house. Christmas is my favorite time of year and this year is especially exciting for me. For the first time in 3 years, we will be celebrating Christmas ON CHRISTMAS with my sister! I can’t wait for that. Also, it will be at Mom’s house in the new living room. I am glad they finished it before snowfall, and while I didn’t help build it, I helped clean out the shed. I don’t have any photos on my local machine, but maybe if Mema would send some to me I’ll edit the post and put them here!
That’s all for now.
