Tonight Target Practice played dodge ball against Corning, a team we had played twice in the past. They put the first point on the scoreboard decimating our team on the first round. Next, we took a point to tie it up 1-1. They went on to score three additional points to make the score 1-4. With only about 5 minutes left in the game, it appeared we would not have a chance to win. With just four seconds left on the clock, we scored again to make the final score 2-4. We had 7 confirmed players, however only 5 were able to make it. Corning had 6 of their 12 member team in attendance. Had more of our players been able to make it, I believe we might have had a shot at winning. Perhaps next week will bring us more success!

On Monday October 5th, 2009 Target Practice played dodge ball at the Keene Recreational Center against Staff Infection. Unfortunately, only three members of their team showed up so they had to forfeit. We decided to still play out the game and have Nichole, one of our 5 players in attendance, play for the other team.

The game started off well, initially it was 0-1, then 1-1, then 2-1. We were thrilled! For the first time in 19 games we were the team ahead. Sadly though, that was soon erased as the other team went on to score 8 additional points to end the game at 2-9. There were some excellent catches made by our team, most notably one by Raj where he fell and caught the ball one handed. Nichole and I talked after the game and we think it might be best to just start catching instead of throwing.

Our next game is Sunday October 11th against Bunch Of Tools at 6:45PM.

I haven’t been writing about Dodge Ball because we haven’t been particularly successful. I must write now because I am excited for the game we are playing tonight. While some teammates would probably disagree, I don’t personally care if we win or lose. I go there to have a good time, get some exercise, and take some aggression out on the other team.

Even though it is a pathetic 8″ Squishy Gator Skin ball that we play with, it still feels good to peg the ball at the other team in hopes of actually hitting them. Most of the time the stupid ball catches the wind and curves away from the opponent, but about one out of every 50 throws I attempt actually hit someone and it feels good.

It’s especially hilarious when you manage to hit the bustiest opponent right in the boob; we always have a good chuckle when that happens. Geoffrey is especially good at doing this and usually manages one or two boob shots per game. At the same time, It’s frighting when you hit someone right in the face even though it’s generally due to the inability to aim the stupid ball and never intentional.

One of the games we played recently was against a team called JA Jubb. Their intentions were clear; they were intentionally targeting me at the start of every match up. Most times, I couldn’t manage to dodge the four balls which they whizzed at me in unison. The worst part about it was It wouldn’t have been so bad if my family weren’t there to witness the humiliation, hah. I was able to experience the “treatment” TWELVE times. That’s right, we lost lost 0-12 that night.

We had another game tonight at 7:30 against Balls of Stone. Unfortunately, only three of the team members showed so we had to forfeit. Fortunately, there were some people there who ended up playing with us and we played the other team anyway. With the help of the guys on our team, the final score was 4-9. I actually was able to catch some balls, and I was able to once catch the ball of the last remaining opponent to score a point! I am hoping that we will have an easier time against the equally crappy team next week and pull off a win.

Tonight, my dodge ball team, Target Practice, had another game at 7:15 against the Uniballers. All eight of our players were in attendance tonight, including Geoffrey, Darren, and Mukund who had been away the previous week. The competition seemed much less fierce (if competition in dodge ball can be fierce), which made me a little less pessimistic. We scored the first point which came to a total shock to me considering the 0-10 blowout of the previous week.

Following our initial point, however, the other team would follow through with five of their own points, making the score 1-5. Not to be discouraged, we battled hard and flung our balls around and managed to again eliminate the other team. The final score was 2-5. I had a great time and hope the others on the team did as well. I am looking forward to the next game!

So tonight we had the dodge ball championships… if you can call them that. It was TONS of fun as always, but we played (I found out after) the #1 team in our league, Corning. They completely destroyed us, 0-7. At one point Geoffrey and I started working together. We successfully got 2 opponents out, but then he was out and I was soon to follow.

The other team was down to 1 opponent to our 3 remaining players. Sadly, the one opponent picked our players off one by one until we had only Nicole remaining. We were hopeful that Nicole could get him out, but then the bastard made a basket! Shoot! The 5 benched players from the opposing team reentered the court as a result. She then picked off 4 of them but the remaining two got her out.

It looks like they are starting another league on January 22. I certainly plan on playing again, either with the team which I played with or by starting a new team. I know Manan will play and I’m sure a few people from the Ball Dodgers Gone Bonkers will play too. I am looking forward to another 8 weeks of fun and exercise!

It is formatted in a way such that all playoff games are played on that night (Monday December 15).

Well, tonight was the very last game of dodgeball for the year. It cost $4.25 to play; good for the season of dodgeball and a team T-shirt. We were the Ball Dodgers Gone Bonkers, and let me tell you, some of the calls the referees made certainly drove me bonkers!

There was the time the ball supposedly hit my shoe; I must have been wearing concrete shoes because I never felt the ball. Countless other times, I stepped over this line or that line when I threw the ball, which is most certainly against the rules. There was one game where I threw the ball and got the FOURTH person out that round (my personal best), only to discover that only three counted because I stepped over a f**K**g line. Grrrr.

Tonight, it was the remaining 5 players with interest on our team versus 4 players on the other team. I am not sure why they only had four players, but it seemed like we might have a chance! Did we ACTUALLY have a chance? No way! In 30 minutes of competition, they eliminated our team SIX times. Thankfully, though, it wasn’t a blowout. We managed to take 2 rounds, yielding a game total of 6-2.

Even though we only won ONE game during the season (due to the other team’s forfeit) I had a great time and met some new people. I wish to play again next year and hope that we can better our team by then.
